Counterpoint depends on its Friends.
The Friends of Counterpoint was formed in
1992. David felt that it would be a good idea to collect the names
and addresses of people who attended concerts, so that they could
be kept informed about future events.
Anybody who runs a choir, or who is involved in the
publicity of a choir, knows how important it is to get as many people
to attend an event as possible. We regularly attain an audience
in excess of 200, and at the 2004 James Bowman concert in Exeter
Cathedral we reached over 550.
The level of money taken at the door will dictate
whether we can buy new music for future concerts or whether we can
travel further afield to perform in different areas.
As Counterpoint is not a fee paying choir, the only
monies available to expand the repertoire or invest in the future
of the group comes from the takings on the door.
The Friends now number some 525 people. We mail members
about each event during the year. This is now the only form of advertising
we undertake - with the exception of the very occasional editorial.
Friends can obtain a discount on tickets ordered
prior to a concert.
One of the wonderful things about having a constant
group of music-lovers is that there is a regular core to our audience
- many of the faces at a concert are instantly recognised as supporters,
and this creates a special ambiance and intimacy.
Over the years, the Friends of Counterpoint have supported
us through thick and thin and it is their love and dedication that
has allowed the group to expand and become one of the premiere choral
ensembles in the South West.
We thank all our Friends for their continuing love
and support, and look forward to many more happy years of music-making
together.
If you would like to become a Friend, please get
in touch with us. There is no charge involved in being a Friend.
